College Council

I recruited, trained, and managed a college council consisting of 14 students from colleges all around the greater Los Angeles area. This was a new component to the development of College Night that I advocated for. I felt strongly that for College Night I wanted the event to be entirely college student developed.

College Council Students came from:

University of California, Los Angeles

California State University, Los Angeles

California State University, Channel islands

California State University, Long Beach

University of Southern California

Glendale Community College

Mount Saint Mary's University

During my time as the Getty Center's 2016-2017 Graduate Intern in Public Programs my main project was reinvigorating their College Night, an annual event that works to bring Los Angeles college audiences to the Getty Center for an evening of tours, art workshops, and entertainment. The central goal of College Night is to showcase the resources the Getty Center has to offer local Los Angeles college students while also bringing new audiences to the museum.

College Night 2017 featured the widest breadth of programming since its beginning. Unlike previous years in which only the Getty Museum was open to the public I chose to also open the Getty Research Institute and garden. With the choice to feature the Getty's Robert Irwin Garden and spring timing, we decided on a spring theme that made its appearance in all areas of programming. College night featured the following programming and collaborations:

  • Curated playlist sound installations inspired by the Getty Center's gardens and architecture by local DJ Group, Soulection

  • Instagram Gallery Caption Challenge

  • Getty Multicultural Undergraduate Internship (MUI) Alumni Lounge: a collaborative art making installation and casual networking event with previous participants of the Getty MUI program. The MUI Alumni Lounge featured a wish tree and alumni of the MUI program available to answer any questions about their experience participating in the MUI program.

  • LA Zine Fest zine making workshop inspired by the Getty Museum's exhibition: Breaking News: Turning the Lens on Mass Media.

  • Drop-in Life Drawing inspired by the Getty's Robert Irwin Garden

  • Digital Art History: DH4 Installation: An art installation using the Getty Research Institute's open-source resources to remix data, images, and maps to create your own video collage

  • UCLA Costume Design Presentation: In collaboration with UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television students created costumes and sets inspired by Rembrandt's Abduction of Europa

  • Community College Photo Exhibition: An exhibition inspired by the Getty Museum's exhibition: Breaking News: Turning the Lens on Mass Media created in collaboration with students from College of the Canyons, East Los Angeles, Los Angeles City College, Pierce College, and Santa Monica College

  • Ask the Curator and Meet the Artists sessions in the galleries

  • Student and Docent tours throughout the Getty's exhibitions and permanent collection

See below for videos featuring highlights of the Getty Center's Spring 2017 College Night. These videos were used as promotional behind the scenes advertisements for the event. In conjunction with these videos I utilized a strategic marketing and social media campaign that raised the attendance to over 2600 students.
